How to care for Fall Mums: Keep them Blooming Longer

The colder season is upon us and the question that everyone’s asking is

“How do I keep my Fall Mums blooming longer and stay healthy?”

It’s quite simple really and let us tell you how!

Regardless of where you are planting your mums, indoors in a pot or outside in a garden bed, the care is relatively the same.

You’ll want to make sure that they are in a very sunny are a be it inside or out! Choose an area of your house that gets a lot of natural sunlight, and you should be golden. You want to make sure that your soil is evenly moist as mums do love their water. When you are watering your moms make sure you’re watering at the base of the plant where the soil is and not directly on top just to avoid any fungus buildup within the petals of your flowers! We want to keep those looking fresh and pretty. Deadheading often will also ensure that you have lasting blooms within your plant. Keeping things neat and clean in there not only keeps it looking beautiful, but it also allows your plant to bloom longer by giving it room to flourish by moving the dead stuff.

Something to also note, if you are bringing your indoor mums outside, just make sure that you bring them back in. Especially on extra cold nights as they can sustain unfortunate damage. Mums are slightly frost resistant but only to a degree. Bringing them in ensures that they will last much longer into the season!

If your mums do get hit by frost don’t worry. Just make sure you prune the back just a little bit at about an inch or two of stems above the ground and this will help ensure new healthy growth!

That’s it!

Simple and easy ways to make sure that your fall mums are staying beautiful throughout the entire season. If you’d like more hot tips and tricks, give us a call or stop by our greenhouse and our experts would love to help you out.
